“How to” Demo on Oct 10th: Learn How to Turn Your Original Paintings into On-Demand Prints and Other Items
Kimberly Stein, acclaimed VAS mixed media artist, will share her tips for marketing your art on on-demand channels.
Kimberly is known for her coastal contemporary fine arts. Her pieces, which emphasize light, shape, color, and form, are featured in collections across the US. She exhibits in galleries in Virginia and Florida and has dedicated over 35 years to arts education in her community.

Pastel artist Kaarina Mosser, who emigrated from Russia in the 1990s, headlined our September member meeting on Thursday, September 11th at 7:00.
Karina has developed a unique blending technique, which adds brilliance to colors. Her work projects a strong feeling of hope, harmony, and serenity. A member of the Pastel Society of America, Kaarina regularly exhibits her art in regional galleries.

Photographer W. Lee Meeks headlined the VAS’s members meeting on July 10th at the Vienna Art Center.
Lee is an Aerospace Engineer, former Marine Infantry Officer, author, Instructor, and photographer. He is inspired by the intersection of STEM & Art.
As he explains, “Photography’s tenets include perspective, framing, composition, lines, & shape. There are others, but these are more than just drivers to a good image. They are about seeing the world differently. About enhancing and sharing stories visually.”

Liang Wei headlines our June 2025 member meeting.
Liang Wei has been a resident artist at the Torpedo Factory since 2001. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in NY, CT, MD, VA and Washington D.C. His numerous awards include the Torpedo Factory Artist of the Year and First Place Watercolor for Best of Virginia Artists and Artisans. He also won Outstanding and Honorable mention awards at the First and Second Overseas Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Exhibitions held in Beijing, China.
The painting here was a winning entry at our own Green Spring Gardens Show in March.
Liang’s Wei’s calligraphy has adorned the jacket designs of books such as “The Search for Modern China” and “Chinese Roundabout” by Yale Historian Jonathan Spence and “Furrows” by Yale anthropologist Helen Siu.

Susan Lapham was our featured artist in May. Our audience was captivated by her deep dive into the colorful vibrant world of textile art!
Susan is an abstract textile artist who dances between the design wall and sewing machine. She is inspired by her unusual childhood crossing five continents, speaking three languages, and managing four brothers.
Her vibrant, geometric, and exquisitely colored work has been exhibited widely in the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, The Dairy Barn, Schweinfurth Museum, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Her awards include Merit Award Winner at ArtFields, Best of Show at the Torpedo Factory, and Best Use of Color. She received degrees in cartography and statistics and worked as a mapmaker and researcher until her retirement in 2023. She spends her creative time in her studio in Vienna, Virginia.

Urban landscape artist Sarah Baptist paints the unnoticed beauty and inherent juxtapositions of city life. At the recent VAS member meeting and artist demo, she shared her journey from stage design to full-time plein air artist.
Her rapt audience learned how she sees and captures the visual poetry of mundane urban settings. Her work has won several awards, is shown in local galleries, and has been featured in “Plein Air Magazine” and other publications.
